Hi, I’m Kate. Let’s spend time outside.

I attached that quote to the refrigerator in every kitchen of every home I have ever lived in since I graduated from Boston College 20+ years ago. It has never been more apt as I’ve transitioned from Chief Financial Officer, Public Accounting Firm to Outdoor Adventure Professional, Independent Business Owner.

I spent the first thirteen years of my career working in audit, accounting, and finance roles in public accounting firms and mutual fund companies in the U.S. and Canada. In 2012 I took a leap of faith, left my CFO role, and enrolled in the Outdoor Adventure Naturalist program at Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley, based in Pembroke, Ontario.

I’ve discovered a love for canoeing, kayaking, and backcountry travel in all seasons and this is how KMS Outdoors has come to pass. I want to inspire individuals to get out and take advantage of what the outdoors has to offer them.

I have spent most of my life in either Ithaca (NY), Boston (MA), Toronto (ON), or my current location in the Ottawa Valley.

While making my vacation my vocation happily takes up most of my time, in my spare time I read, write, and try to learn new things like drawing (which I’m terrible at!).
